MISSION

The Tidewater Wesley Foundation is an intentional community of faculty, staff and students that offers opportunities for spiritual discovery and growth, leadership development, fellowship and service to the world through our relationship with Jesus Christ.At the Tidewater Wesley Foundation, we live out our mission in a number of ways.Our Tuesday Table Talk is a time for the Wesley community to gather and reconnect with each other every week during the semester. Meals are often prepared by local churches and speakers from the ODU community and local churches offer a message of hope.Our Small Group Bible Studies and Discussion Groups explore relevant issues for young adults, using different studies or books to guide us. Some big topics come up, and we get a chance to share our thoughts, hear what others have to say, and continue to discover what we believe and and how we live out our beliefs.Beyond our weekly events, we have tons of special events, from pool tournaments to game nights to random trips to the beach. Each Fall, we spend a weekend on a spiritual life retreat and in the Spring we have a mission project over Spring Break.Twice a month, the Wesley Student Fellowship participates in serving over 200 people at the Soup Kitchen sponsored by Park Place UMC.

Pastors Campus Ministry is one way that members of the United Methodist Church fulfill the baptismal vow: "With God's help we will proclaim the good news and live according to the example of Christ. We will surround these persons with a community of love and forgiveness, that they may grow in their trust of God, and be found faithful in their service to others. We will pray for them, that they may be true disciples who walk in in the way that leads to life."We would like to help you maintain a relationship between your college students and the church, and one of the ways you can help us do that is by letting us know who is coming to Old Dominion University. Please email us with contact information of your students.Youth PastorsDo you need a place for a lock-in? Are you looking for mission opportunities in the Hampton Roads area during the summer? We can accomodate up to thirty youth for overnight events at the Tidewater Wesley Foundation. Friday -Saturday retreats are always available. We have a pool table, ping-pong table, screen and projector and plenty of couches! We have two large areas in our building so you can separate the boys and girls. At only $3 per participant, this is an affordable place to "get away." Contact Rev. Haynes to schedule your overnight retreat!

About Us

The Tidewater Wesley Foundation is the United Methodist Campus Ministry at Old Dominion University. We seek to be a Christian community that is open to experiencing and sharing God's love on campus and in the Hampton Roads community. We offer opportunities for our participants to strenghten their relationship with God and to relate to each other in love and acceptance. We focus on worship, prayer, mission and outreach on the Old Dominion University campus and in the greater community.The Tidewater Wesley Foundation is guided by both a Wesley Student Fellowship Leadership Team and a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors consists of business professionals, faculty and staff, pastors and lay members of local United Methodist Churches. The Board serves as a visioning resource and offers guidance and oversight of staff.The Wesley Student Fellowship Leadership Team is made up of currently enrolled students who plan and coordinate different areas of ministry. Students in leadership specialize in areas of worship, prayer, missions, outreach, hospitality and discipleship. Leadership team members go through an application and interview process each year. The leadership team offers creative vision for special events, engages in local and international mission encounters, sponsors cookouts, partners with other student groups, and offers other social and service opportunities.The Wesley Student Fellowship is a recognized student organization on the Old Dominion University campus that provides opportunites for social connection, service learning and faith development.Currently, the Tidewater Wesley Foundation has one staff member: Rev. John Haynes, Jr., an ordained elder in the Virginia Annual Conference appointed to this position.

Please Support UsThe Tidewater Wesley Foundation at Old Dominion University receives 80% of our funding from apportionments assigned to the local churches by the Virginia Annual Conference. We also receive funding from local churches and United Methodist Women units in the Hampton Roads area who give us support for projects like Table Talk.Faculty, Staff, Students and Alumni also contribute financially through parking fees and Football tailgate fundraisers.Our Wesley Student Fellowship also receives modest support for programming through the Student Government Association.There are many ways that you can give suppoort, both financially and through alternative giving.To Give Financial Gifts:Please send checks payable to the Tidewater Wesley Foundation to 1338 W. 49th Street, Norfolk, VA 23508.Alternative Giving:The Wesley Foundation can often use new or gently used items to enhance our ministry. John Haynes, Jr. for more details.Here are a few things that the Wesley Foundation is currently in need of:Furnishings: Crate type furniture (This End Up), lamps, a baptismal font, staging material for our fellowship hall.Musical Equipment: Electric and Acoustic Guitars, Drum set, amplifiers, microphone stands, a 16 or 24 channel mixer, microphone cords and microphones.Original Art: Are you an artist? We would love to see your work displayed in the Wesley House. We are looking for art that reflects and encourages our faith. This year's theme for our student fellowship is "Change the World." We are also creating a prayer room and would like to see some inspirational art there.Outdoor: We are looking for Adirondack chairs for our front yard.Do you have a beach house or second home in the mountains?We offer leadership retreats and Spiritual life retreat periodically throughout the year and we always looking for a place to escape the stress of Old Dominion University.
